An intimate farewell session - Pet Portraits in Richmond Virginia

As a Richmond photographer, some of the most sacred sessions I document are those honoring the life of a soul animal. Our animals are our family. Companions through every season of life. Pet portraits capture their spirit, their softness, their quirks… everything that makes them irreplaceable. And when the time comes to say goodbye, those images become priceless heirlooms.

Here are Maeve’s words.

“My soul cat… started to rapidly decline in health.”

Maeve shared, “A couple of months ago, my soul cat, whom I had the pleasure of caring for over the past 14 years, started to rapidly decline in health.”

“I put out a call for help… asking if anyone was willing to come take photos of us extremely short notice.”

Farewell moments often come quickly.. I’ve been there. No one should have to miss the chance to document this chapter because time is running short or emotions are overwhelming.

“Where and when do you need me?”

Maeve remembers, “Hannah did not hesitate to answer. ‘Where and when do you need me?’ I sobbed…”

As soon as I saw her message, I responded. These sessions matter deeply. My cat passed away suddenly in 2022. If I had the time, I would’ve done a photoshoot for us. I never want anyone to feel like the missed their opportunity.

For farewell pet portraits in Richmond, I offer special pricing, and no one will ever be turned away for lack of funds. Every family deserves the chance to honor their companion with compassion, dignity, and love.

“She took her time, loved on my baby as if he were her own…”

When I arrived, we moved slowly and gently. It’s not a time to rush or force posing or lighting.
“Hannah took her time, loved on my baby as if he were her own, and worked at his pace.”

This is the heart of end-of-life pet photography. The session follows your fur baby’s energy. It’s quiet. Respectful. Emotional. Loving. Nothing is rushed. Nothing is forced. Ever.

“She sat with me in my grief…”

Maeve said, “She sat with me in my grief as I told her what I wanted to do for the photos, and validated how special my idea was.”

I believe deeply in honoring not just the animal, but the human holding them through this transition. Every idea, ritual, or meaningful detail deserves space. These sessions are as much about your heart as they are about the beautiful soul beside you.

“She captured the two of us the way I want to remember our time together.”

This is why these sessions matter so profoundly. Maeve wrote, “Hannah captured the two of us the way I want to remember our time together… and gave me a gift that I consider priceless.”

Photographs become a way back to them….. a way to feel their warmth, remember their eyes, and relive the connection you shared for years.

“For that I am forever grateful.”

Maeve closes her review with, “If you are considering getting photos taken for any reason, bitter or sweet, Hannah is your girl.”

If you or someone you love is preparing to say goodbye to a cherished companion, I’m here. With flexibility and compassion. Your memories matter. Your connection matters. And your fur baby deserves to be remembered with beauty, dignity, and endless love.
