Being invited into someone’s home to photograph them and their pets is something I never take lightly. This session with Mandi was extra special because she’s not just a past client - she’s a friend. Photographing her and her pets felt natural and honest, exactly how I want my sessions to feel.
As a Richmond, VA lifestyle photographer, I love working in people’s homes. Your home already tells your story. The way you move through it, the way your pets follow you, where the light falls at certain times of day - those details matter. No home is the same, and no relationship looks the same. Mandi’s pets are family, and this session was about documenting that connection as it actually exists.
This session was shot entirely on film. That choice was intentional. Film shows real moments… the in-between stuff, the imperfect stuff. There’s no heavy editing, no smoothing everything into something it’s not. In a time when AI-generated images and over-edited photos are everywhere, keeping things honest is important to me. Some of my favorite moments from this session are simple ones: light coming through the window, paws under the Christmas tree, quiet begging for treats, quick kisses caught without trying. Nothing staged. Just real life, documented as it was.
